Police executed one young man in a raid on a football field in Vali Mithat Bey Neighborhood in Van’s İpekyolu district yesterday evening.

Eye witnesses say the football field was surrounded by several armored police vehicles around 17.30 and special operations units raided the field. The police made the players and the workers in the field lie on the ground and continued on to the locker rooms. Witnesses report 3 shots fired shortly after the police entered the locker rooms. The man whose name could not be reached was removed from the field in a body bag. The locker room door showed no signs of forced entry.

There were no bullet holes seen in the walls of the locker room and witness reports say 3 young men injured in the event were led out through the back door and were detained. Police also detained the owners of the field, Yunus K. and Hakan K. and seized the 24-hour security cameras.

Eye witness İsa Öztürk said: “I was making tea for the players getting ready for the game, all of a sudden the police raided us and made us all lie on the ground. Shortly after we heard 2-3 gunshots.”

Eye witness Turan Ediş said: “When I got to the scene the police had surrounded the field with armored vehicles. I heard shouting from the inside. I would guess they had caught somebody and they were beating him up. Not five minutes later, I heard gunshots. I heard 2 shots fired. The police outside with us said “Nobody make a sound, there is a clash inside.” We were waiting at the door. They took out the dead person in a body bag. They said there was a total of 4 people inside. When we asked where they were, they said they were injured and were led out from the back door. We didn’t see the injured.”
