Political parties in South Kurdistan call for national unity

Political party representatives said national unity could not be achieved due to the KDP and PUK’s partnership with Turkey and Iran, calling for national unity at a time when Kurdish citizens are massacred, Kurdistan lands are occupied.

Communist Party Kurdistan Committee Officer Hemin Nuri and Gorran Movement Xurmatu Chapter Officer Burhan Mela Emin spoke to RojNews about the importance of national unity.

Communist Party Kurdistan Committee Officer Hemin Nuri said the Middle East is going through a transformation process and added: “The Kurdish people must handle this process well, and not wait for it to play out. The Kurdish issue is part of the problems in the region. Kurds must hold a national congress and approach this process with a strategic and national program.”

Hemin Nuri pointed to the importance of Kurdish national unity: “The most violent enemy of Kurds is Turkey, bombing Bashur (South Kurdistan) every day and murdering civilians. Kurds can only stand against the enemy through national unity.”

Gorran Movement Xurmatu Chapter Officer Burhan Mela Emin said national unity could not be achieved due to the KDP and PUK’s partnership with Turkey and Iran and added: “I do not believe a strong national unity can be achieved until these two forces and this partnership. It is of the utmost importance that national unity is achieved at a time when our citizens are being massacred and our lands are occupied.”
