Resistance against usurpation of municipalities continues

Resistance continues in Batman and Halfeti against the usurpation of municipalities by trustees.

In Mardin, Batman and Halfeti, where the municipalities were usurped by the government on 4 November, resistance against the trustees appointed in the place of the ousted co-mayors continues. On the 9th day of the protests, masses came together at Basın Junction in the city center of Batman, including the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır, Peoples‘ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists, Peace Mothers’ Assembly members and many citizens.

The protest started with the slogans ‘We will win by resisting’ and ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) and continued with a vigil at Basın Junction.

In Halfeti district of Urfa, the resistance against the usurpation of people’s will is on its 9th day. Representatives of the DEM Party Adıyaman provincial and district organisations and Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association (PSAKD) Adıyaman Branch executives visited the people of Halfeti who continue their protest in front of the blockaded municipality.

Remarking that the people of Halfeti declared their will on 31 March, DEM Party Adıyaman Provincial Co-chair Hüseyin Coşkun stated that they do not accept the appointment of trustees, which, he said, is a problem of democracy, Coşkun vowed that the struggle will continue until the trustee is withdrawn.

The people's vigil in front of the municipality building continues.
