Saturday Mother Fatma Morsümbül, who died yesterday, has been laid to rest next to her son who fell in the ranks of the PKK in 2014.
Saturday Mother Fatma Morsümbül (72) died yesterday in Bingöl after a heart attack she had suffered a week ago. Morsümbül was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Bingöl State Hospital, and passed away last night.
A convoy of hundreds of vehicles brought Morsümbül’s body to Bingöl’s Gözeler village after the procedures at the hospital. HDP and BDP administrators and village residents participated in the funeral ceremony, and IHD (Human Rights Association) Istanbul Branch and Saturday Mothers sent wreaths.
Morsümbül’s body was buried next to her son Ekin Morsümbül, a PKK fighter that lost his life during clashes in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district in 2014.
Morsümbül’s daughter Fadime Morsümbül stated that her mother died without having found the bones of her son Hüseyin Morsümbül, who was a 19 year-old student at Bingöl High School when he was detained during a raid of soldiers and police officers on their house on September 18, 1980.
Condolences to the Morsümbül family will be offered at the Süleyman Bektaş Condolence House in Bingöl’s Yeşilyurt neighborhood.
