The co-presidency council of the People's Congress of Kurdistan, Kongra-Gel released a statement on the occasion of the Yazidi day Cejna Êzî with the hope that it will be “a chance for the unity of Kurdish people and achievements in the Shengal resistance”.

KONGRA GEL remarked that the KDP hands over Shengal to the Iraqi Federal Government today in the same way it handed it over to ISIS mercenaries in 2014.

The statement pointed out that the people of Shengal are mounting great resistance today against any political and physical massacre. Commending the heroic and historic resistance in Shenga, KONGRA GEL said the Kurdish people must know that the values and gains of Shengal could only be protected through resistance.

KONGRA GEL called on the Kurdistan people in and outside their country to provide any necessary assistance and aid to the people in Shengal. Describing the martyrdom of Mam Beşir (Hasan Dutar) as “a big loss that caused unspeakable pain to us and to the Yazid people as well”, KONGRA GEL said Mam Beşir’s martyrdom must be an occasion to increase the struggle for Shengal in order to preserve all the values made by martyrs.

Pointing to the legitimate defense of the Shengal people against ISIS, the statement continued: “Yazidi youth organized themselves and formed Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and the Women's Resistance Units (YJŞ) to defend their people and did not allow the 74th massacre against Shengal to achieve its goal. Today, they are they are defending themselves against the alliance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Iraqi Federal Government.”

KONGRA GEL ended its statement saying: “There is nothing more sacred than the resistance of Shengal. The defense of Shengal is a humanitarian, national and moral responsibility for us. The resistance must be enhanced in a united spirit for Shengal focused on victory. Only in this way can the plans of the invaders and their partners be responded.”
