South Kurdistan youth begin their march for Öcalan

The youth of South Kurdistan have started their march for Öcalan's freedom from Suleymaniyah to Hewler with the motto “Lets smash the occupation and liberate the Leader.”

Led by the Kurdistan Free Youth's Movement, Young Women’s Organization, Youth's Resistance Movement and Rojava Youth's Movement, the first march in South Kurdistan to protest the February 15 conspiracy against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan has begun today.

The youth gathered at Sulaymaniyah’s Nali Park at 10:00 and made a statement on the goal of the march, which said “Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan was handed over to Turkey through an international conspiracy 18 years ago. The conspiracy against Öcalan is unlike any other conspiracy. It defies morality, laws and humanity."

The demonstrators emphasized that the conspiracy targeted all Kurdish people in the person of Öcalan and everyone that demands freedom, adding: “Therefore, the isolation of Leader Öcalan is inhumane."

CALL FOR STRONG PARTICIPATION IN THE MARCH

In their statement, South Kurdistan youth pointed out that Öcalan's ideas enabled the youth to reunite with their core values, and called for strong participation in the march. The youth said “We condemn all the powers that engaged in the conspiracy, and view the freedom of Leader Öcalan as the freedom of the youth of Kurdistan. We view the CPT and the European Court of Human Rights as the main bodies responsible for the isolation of Leader Öcalan, whose rights are being violated. We are concerned that these bodies are not objective regarding Leader Öcalan.

We salute the internationalist youth that are also marching for the freedom of Öcalan. We commemorate those that fell as martyrs during the ‘You cannot darken our Sun’ events and say that they have brightened our path and enhanced our struggle as they set their bodies on fire.

We call upon all Kurdish youth to put up a more active struggle against the conspiracy to ensure the freedom of Öcalan. We call upon the youth of South Kurdistan to strongly participate in the protest that will be held in Hewler on February 15.”

The youth will march from Suleymaniyah through Çemçemal and Kirkuk for 5 days, and make a press statement in Hewler on February 15.
