Teachers have taken to the streets across Southern Kurdistan today to protest the non-payment of their salaries and violation of their rights.
Teachers and public servants who have not been paid their salaries for a long while had decided to organise today's mass rally as a Popular Reaction Movement which they call 'White Revolution'. Masses took to the streets within this scope as of early morning hours.
Demonstrators in Sulaymaniyah gathered in front of the Directorate of Education and started to march to the Governor's Office.
The government's policies were simultaneously protested in a number of centres including Halabja, Kelar, Keladıze and Ranya.
The teachers partaking in the boycott in Ranya faced an intervention by security forces but they continued their march and protest.
Teachers in Halabja demanded the payment of their salaries, announcing that they will otherwise not begin their duty in the new school year.
Demonstrators in Kelar also called for an immediate end to the violation of their rights.
The new school year was meant to begin today but has been postponed to October 1 by the Ministry of Education due to the strike.
