The brave souls of Kurdistan

Guerrillas Armanç Welat and Zinarîn Zinar fought against the enemy in Heftanîn and fell as martyrs on 19 October 2020.

Guerrillas Armanç Welat and Zinarîn Zinar, both members of the Heftanîn resistance, talked about how the PKK influenced their characters and the guerilla life they lived before falling as martyrs on 19 October 2020.

HPG guerrilla Armanç Welat (Orhan Mihemed) was born in Afrin in 1997. Armanç Welat joined the PKK in 2015 after growing up in a patriotic home.

When he joined the guerrillas, he was particularly affected by the PKK's comradeship: "The comradeship in the PKK affected me greatly. Because comradeship is strongly felt in the organization. During this training, I observed and came to learn the thoughts of Leader Apo closely and personally. People cannot define themselves clearly in the current system. However, in the training of the PKK, you get to know your history and identity better. This happened thanks to the efforts of Leader Apo.

I noticed several changes in my personality after becoming acquainted with the movement, including the improvement of my willpower and my long term purposes. In the face of death, the PKK created a new life. They fought for liberty in the face of enslavement. This was one of the most compelling things for us."

Armançı Welat concludes his speech by addressing Kurdish youth: "All of our young people should join the freedom movement. The freedom movement has served as a beacon of hope for the entire world. Only through this struggle can young people and women attain their free existence and independence."

In  the YJA Star guerrillas I discovered myself

Zinarîn Zinar (Selwa Şêx Mihemed) was born in Bîrzinar, a village in Kobanê. Zinarîn, who grew up in a patriotic family, became acquainted with the cause through her brother (who fell as a martyr) and joined the guerrilla ranks in 2017.

Zinarîn Zinar, a guerilla in the Medya Defense Zones said that "After my brother fell as a martyr, I strengthened my claim to struggle. I didn't want his efforts to be in vain. My brother's death had a profound impact on me.

I was concerned about how I would fight in these harsh living conditions when I first joined the guerrillas. I had some challenges at first, but after learning more about guerrilla life, I became more comfortable with it. As a result, my urge to stay on the mountain grew even stronger. I wanted to put in additional practice time. I wanted to learn more about my personality, especially after reading about women's history."

Zinarîn Zinar concluded her comments by adding: "I got to know my past in the liberation movement, and most significantly, myself. I adopted heval Sakine and Bêrîtan's viewpoint, and more specifically, their line. And I kept my end of the promise to my brother. It’s my call to the Kurdish youth to join the PKK. They should be aware of and protect their own past. Because those who know themselves are those who triumph in life."
