The state commits a crime against humanity in Nusaybin

Bodies of the civilians and YPS fighters that died during the attacks of state forces in Mardin's Nusaybin district still remain in neighborhoods where the curfew continues. State forces do not allow the retrieval of the bodies in Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir neighborhoods and they demolish houses on top of these bodies. Another body was discovered during the demolition in Fırat neighborhood on January 16.
‘PEOPLE OF NUSAYBİN UNDER RISK’
Dr. Zeki Uzun stated that the bombardment of state forces have damaged both the infrastructure and the surface of Nusaybin and the sewage water has mixed with drinking water. Uzun said “This carries health risks and infectious diseases are on the rise in Nusaybin. The migration problem brings serious health risks. Due to the migration, kids and pregnant women can not get vaccination. Hundreds of children in Nusaybin are born with serious health risks.”
‘WE CANNOT OFFER MEDICAL SERVICE’
Dr. Uzun stated that they are not able to offer medical service and emphasized the importance of peace for health. He said conditions of war prevent them from offering health services, which increases the rate of stillbirths and miscarriages, and disrupts the psychodynamics of the city. Dr. Uzun noted that their main goal is to enable medical access in Nusaybin, and called upon Turkish state forces to end the conditions that threaten the human health in Nusaybin.
TALLY OF DEATH, MIGRATION AND DESTRUCTION IN NUSAYBİN
Dr. Uzun stated that 12,380 families from Abdulkadir Paşa, Fırat, Dicle, and Zeynel Abidin neighborhoods, and 70,000 families from Nusaybin in general, were forced to migrate from Nusaybin due to the continued onslaught and following demolition by state forces.
He stated that 12,000 houses and 9,000 shops were destroyed, and more than a thousand people got injured. Dr. Uzun said the death toll during the clashes is between 300 and 500, who include soldiers, policemen and civilians.
‘IT IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY TO PREVENT THE RETRIEVAL OF BODIES’
Lastly, Dr. Uzun stressed that state forces committed a crime against humanity by preventing the retrieval of bodies from the neighborhoods where demolition continues, describing the case as an ethical and humanitarian scandal. Uzun called upon state forces to give an immediate end to this crime against humanity.
