People from across Kurdistan territory are heading to Qandil mountains to welcome the Kurdish people's day of freedom and resurrection, Newroz.

Tens of thousands are expected to join this year's Newroz in Qandil which will be celebrated with the motto “We will definitely win”.

Locals that started to gather at Qandil mountains since yesterday put up tents and lit fires in the Newroz area in the evening. Joining the Kurdish traditional dance halay, they often chanted ‘Bijî Serok Apo' and 'Bijî Newroz’.

The area where the Newroz event will take place today is covered with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's posters and flags of KCK, KJK, PKK, HPG-YJA-Star, in addition to a huge flag colored yellow, red and green unfurled on a hillside.

As the Newroz event will kick off at 11:00 am, people gathered in the area have already started the celebration with halay dances accompanied by Kurdish music.
