Thousands of Êzidîs were massacred or abducted by ISIS during the 73rd massacre they suffered in their history, in Shengal on August 3, 2014. Thousands more were forced to leave their lands and migrate to other parts of Kurdistan.
After YBŞ/YJŞ forces liberated Shengal from ISIS, Êzidî people began to return to their lands. The town of Khanasor is one of the main areas witnessing a return of displaced Êzidîs. The families that were forced to migrate to Duhok and Zakho are preparing to return to their lands.
More than a thousand families staying in Duhok and Zakho since the massacre are reported to be making preparations for their return.
Local sources report that these families are facing an obstruction by the KDP, but are still insisting on turning back home despite these obstacles.
