In its report on the Turkish state’s genocidal attacks in Northern Kurdistan, Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) stated that 224 civilians have been massacred since August 16, 2015.

Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) prepared a report on the human rights violations that have taken place in Northern Kurdistan. In its report, TİHV stated that at least 1 million and 377 thousand people were affected by the curfews, and state forces massacred a total of 224 civilians including 42 children, 31 women, and 30 elderly.

In the report, TİHV noted that the attacks entered an escalated phase after December 11, 2015 and this escalation could be seen in the application, scope and open-ended nature of the curfews as well as the intensified military deployments in the region.

142 CIVILIANS MASSACRED IN SUR, CİZRE AND SİLOPİ

TİHV stated that state forces killed 142 civilians in Amed’s Sur and Şırnak’s Cizre and Silopi districts, where the curfews are still ongoing. According to the report, at least 64 civilians were killed inside their houses between December 11, 2015 and February 5, 2016. 53 of these civilians were killed by artillery shells whereas 11 died due to health complications that could not be addressed because of the curfews.

31 PEOPLE DIED DUE TO THE PREVENTION OF AMBULANCES

In its report, TİHV noted that at least 31 people died due to the state forces’ prevention of ambulances and called for an independent, impartial and speedy investigation of these human rights violations.
