Trustee appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality

Etimesgut district Governor in Turkish capital Ankara, Cumali Atilla, has been appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality to replace Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı who have been jailed two days ago.

Etimesgut district Governor in Ankara, Cumali Atilla, has been appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality to replace Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı who were detained on October 25 and jailed on the 30th for alleged links to an armed organization within the scope of an investigation launched by Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office. The trustee will reportedly take office tomorrow morning.

Officials from the Turkish Ministry of Interior announced earlier today that a district governor or a deputy governor would be appointed to Amed Metropolitan Municipality in line with an emergency decree.

After the detention of Kışanak and Anlı last week, police forces blockaded the municipality building with barricades. While the municipality employees are allowed to enter the building only after an ID check, the vigil outside the municipality in protest against the seizure of the municipality continues.

Cumali Atilla, born in Elazığ in 1964, graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Political Sciences. He served as Uğurludağ Vice District Governor, Çobanlar Vice District Governor, Mengen District Governor, Diyarbakır Deputy Governor and Beyşehir District Governor. He was currently serving as the District Governor of Ankara's Etimesgut district.
