Erciş governor M. Şirin Yaşar, who had been appointed to Erciş Municipality as trustee with an emergency decree, replaced the sign in Van’s Erciş district that was put up by the DBP municipality and said ‘Peace’ in Armenian, Kurdish and Turkish.
The sign belonged to a vineyard called ‘Peace Vineyard,’ which had been started by the DBP municipality in the district in April, 2015 to commemorate the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
Erciş Municipality trustee Yaşar replaced the sign that said ‘Peace Vineyard’ in Armenian, Kurdish and Turkish with ‘April 1 Vineyard,’ referring to April 1, 1915 often dubbed as the beginning of the Armenian Genocide.
