The Turkish army is massing more troop contingents in the northern Kurdish province of Şırnak. Since Thursday night, intensive troop concentrations and armament deployments have been observed in the region. Troop strength is being increased, especially in the bases and checkpoints in the territory of the Cudi mountains.
Shortly after the start of the invasion of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) in mid-April, the Turkish army launched a military operation in the Cudi region. At the beginning of May, the operation was expanded in response to a series of successful actions by the guerrilla forces of YJA Star and HPG. In addition to Cudi, which at 2114 metres is the highest mountain in Şirnak, military activities are also concentrated on the four peaks of the massif, which are all higher than 2000 metres, as well as the adjacent Gabar mountain.
Since Friday evening, there have been massive air movements of the Turkish army over Cudi as well as the Gabar. In addition to combat helicopters, transport aircraft have also been observed in the skies above the region. It can be assumed that the Turkish army is airdropping troops to the massif, which is difficult to access.
