A forest fire has broken out on Mount Gabar in the province of Şırnak in Northern Kurdistan after the area was bombarded from the Akdizin military base near Güçlükonak district. The fire started on Sunday night and spread in the morning hours to the village of Findik. As is usual in such fires, the state did not make any effort to put out the fire.
The Turkish military is pursuing a scorched earth policy to destroy retreat areas for the guerrillas. Especially the extensive forest areas of Northern Kurdistan are systematically set on fire and the population is prevented from extinguishing.
