‘Turkish attack on Shengal is a violation of Iraqi sovereignty’

Mehmud Reşo, a member of the Syrian Yazidis’ Association, condemned Turkey’s attack against Shengal and called the attack a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

The invading Turkish state carried out an airstrike targeting a vehicle on the move at the old bazaar street located in Shengal city center at today noon. In consequence of the bombardment on the street with civilians, a commander and a fighter of the YBŞ were martyred, while three civilians were injured, according to the YBŞ (Shengal Resistance Units) statement.

Speaking about the attack, Mehmud Reşo, a member of the Syrian Yazidis’ Association, remarked that the invading Turkish state carried out this attack at a time coinciding with the anniversaries of the martyrdom of Mam Zeki Şengali and the Kocho Massacre.

Mehmud Reşo also pointed out that the attack also coincided with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s visit to Shengal to monitor the situation in the region.

“The Turkish state aims to prevent Shengal people from returning to their homes and to destabilize the region,” he said.

“Shengal people implement self-governance in accordance with international law. This attack is contrary to the law, Iraqi sovereignty and the central government” added Reşo.

Condemning the attack, Mehmud Reşo called on the Iraqi government to prevent attacks against Senegal and other Iraqi territories.
