Turkish forces harass and detain locals in the operation zone in Lice

Turkish military and police forces are raiding villages and harassing the locals, mainly women, in the zone of the military operation in Lice district of Amed. 24 people have been detained during the raids.

The curfew declared in 18 villages in Amed's Lice district on March 5 continues. Around 10 thousand soldiers, police and village guards are joining the large scale operation conducted in this territory and the operation has been extended to the villages of Tuzla (Xweylîn), Dernek (Tilê) and Yamaçlı (Dizdeynê) which are not involved in the curfew zone.

Turkish forces have raided and searched many houses in Karahasan, Kali, Delvan, Mûla, Yenişehir, Müminağa and Şaar villages, and detained 24 people. It is not known where the detainees have been taken.

Ferhat Önkol, brother of 12 years old Ceylan Önkol who was murdered by state forces in 2009 in Hambaz hamlet of Lice's Şenlik village, was also taken into custody in his house in Çemê Alîkan region.

Villages in the operation zone are blockaded with armored vehicles and even children are not allowed to go out of their houses. Villagers state that soldiers and police subject the people to repression and harassment, mainly women, during the house raids they are conducting.

As the operation in the rural areas of villages continues, Turkish military forces have reportedly closed the entry and exit points of Derkan and Deba villages with trenches.
