Warplanes of the invading Turkish army started a bombardment on Mount Asos located on the border between Rojhilat (Eastern) and Bashur (Southern) Kurdistan as of 15:15 Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Roj News, Herdi Salih living in Gelale village of Mewan town said that; “Two Turkish warplanes fired 12 bombs on Mount Asos.”
Salih was very close to the scene during the bombardment he took photographs that show huge smoke over the area targeted by the strikes. The bombardment continued for hours.
The village of Gelale on the skirts of Mount Asos is heavily affected by Turkish aerial bombardments that heavily damage the fields, vineyards and orchards of the local people.
The last time Turkish aircraft shelled the mountain was at the night of November 27, on the 40th anniversary of the PKK, when three guerrillas of the Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) fell as martyrs. The Asos mountain was heavily shelled in this bombing, and one mobile guerrilla unit of the YRK were martyred.
YRK offered their condolences to the families of the martyrs and to the Kurdish people, saying; “We repeat our promise of freedom to the martyrs. We will avenge them.”
