Turkish military helicopter shot down by guerrillas in South Kurdistan

Female guerrilla fighters of the YJA Star shot down a Turkish military helicopter at Girê Cûdî in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported that guerrillas of the YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) shot down a transport helicopter of the Turkish army in southern Kurdistan.

"On 24 October at around midnight, helicopter movements took place over the Girê Cûdî resistance area. A Sikorsky helicopter that tried to airdrop troops near the Şehîd Kendal positions, was struck by YJA Star mobile units. The effective shelling caused the helicopter to catch fire. While trying to move out of the area under intense smoke, it crashed and was destroyed,” the HPG statement said.

An airdropping operation by the Turkish army was also prevented by a guerrilla action near the Şehîd Adil positions in the Zap region on Monday evening. In the same area, Turkish troops were struck by guerrillas with light weapons early on Monday morning. In Çemço, a soldier was killed by a sniper. In Xakurke, mobile guerrilla fighters hit the occupation forces at Girê Şehîd Sarya with heavy weapons. Today, at 4.30 a.m., an advance of a Turkish unit at Girê Cûdî was repulsed by a sabotage action.

ATTACKS BY THE TURKISH ARMY

Regarding the attacks by the Turkish army on Monday, the HPG said that further war crimes were committed. Five banned bombs were used against guerrilla positions in Girê Amêdî and Sîda. In Çemço, four attacks with chemical weapons and pepper gas were carried out against the Şehîd Bahoz positions, and the Turkish army used a kind of fan to direct toxic smoke into the tunnel facility.

In addition, Çemço and the areas of Kanîsarkê, Gundê Dêrik and Gundê Zîvkê in Gare were bombed 13 times by fighter jets. In the Çemço, Girê Hekarî, Girê Cûdî and Girê Amêdî areas, the HPG recorded a total of 44 helicopter attacks. The Girê FM was attacked dozens of times with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons. In Karker, the Turkish army continues to try to demolish guerrilla positions with construction machinery. On the other hand, drone activity was observed over Saca and Çemço.
