The Turkish army has launched a large-scale military operation in the north-Kurdistan province of Şırnak (Şirnex), in which not only soldiers but also special units of the Gendarmerie (JÖH) participate. In line with the operation, the Şırnak Governorate has declared 58 provincial sites so-called special security areas. The ban is expected to last until 19 April. As part of the military operation countless places in the restricted area have been bombarded with artillery from adjacent outposts. Yesterday, more weapons were delivered to the region.
While the large-scale military operation of the Turkish army in the region around the Cudi and Gabar mountains continues, special units of the Turkish Gendarmerie (JÖH) have desecrated the gravestones of fallen guerillas. Those killed at various times and buries in the Lawikê Xerib Cemetery at Cûdî are fighters of the Kurdish Freedom Movement of the HPG and YJA Star. The grave stones of the martyrs were stolen and smeared by JÖH units from the cemetery. The word "Meteler" left on the tombstones is the name of a special JÖH battalion in Şırnak, named after the former brigadier general and commander of the border brigade, Mete Sayar. Sayar was notorious for torturing and "disappearing" Kurds in the 1990s.
