Up to 21 years in prison sought for HDP Batman MP Mehmet Ali Aslan

Up to 21 years prison sentence has been asked for HDP Batman MP Mehmet Ali Aslan.

Indictment has been prepared against HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputy for Batman, Mehmet Ali Aslan due to the press briefings he attended at various dates. Up to 21 years prison sentence is sought for Aslan on charges of “organising and attending unlawful meetings and demonstrations”, “membership to and spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation”.

In the indictment which has been approved by Batman Criminal Court of First Instance, HDP's Aslan faces the following accusations;

- quarrel with police officers during a press briefing held in Batman after the Ankara massacre of October 10, 2015

- attendance in a march and press briefing on October 18, 2015

- attendance and speech at the funeral in Batman of Cihat Türkan who died in Sur, Amed.
