Police forces raided the Van Metropolitan Municipality building and house of Co-mayor Bekir Kaya early Thursday morning.

While a detailed search in the municipality continues, Bekir Kaya has been detained and taken to Van provincial police headquarters.

Alongside Bekir Kaya, Health Services Department Head Yılmaz Berk, architect Zelal Tanlı and employee Cuma Köylüoğlu were also taken into custody.

The municipality employees protesting the operation outside the municipality building were attacked by police with tear gas.
