Ronahî Martyrs' Cemetery in Çatak district of Van also faces the risk of attack by Turkish forces following the bombing and demolition of the cemeteries of fallen Kurdish fighters in Varto and Bitlis in recent weeks.
Concerns over a probable attack on Ronahî Martyrs' Cemetery remain as the surroundings of the graveyard were also shelled by Turkish jets two weeks ago.
Human shields made up of local civilians hold vigil also at the Ronahî Martyrs' Cemetery which was built by families of slain guerrillas and local people two years ago. Dozens of people are visiting the cemetery every day and reacting to the bombing of graveyards by the AKP government.
'OUR MARTYRS ARE OUR REASON FOR BEING'
Civilian Recep Ceylancı who is joining the vigil at the cemetery said they were aware of what the AKP government tried to do as it started to wage a total war against Kurds in the wake of the gains achieved by Kurdish people in Rojava and the election victory of HDP in June 7 elections.
Ceylancı added; "And now, they are attacking our dead. I cannot understand what sort of intolerance this is. Even the ISIS is not attacking cemeteries. The bombing of cemeteries by AKP doesn't suit to humanity, Islam or conscience. We will continue our vigil to protect our martyrs who are our reason for being."
'AKP RECOGNIZES NO LAWS OF WAR'
Another civilian Hüseyin Erol who is also joining the vigil at Ronahî Martyrs' Cemetery told that attacks on graves of guerrillas revealed once again that the AKP government recognizes no laws of war. Erol called on the people to be sensitive about the protection of cemeteries and urged the AKP to stop attacks on the graves of their children.
'WE WILL CONTINUE THE VIGIL TO THE END'
Another participant of the vigil, Abdülkadir Özatan, strongly condemned the attacks on graveyards in Varto and Bitlis, and underlined that cemeteries of martyrs were the honour of the Kurdish people who would continue protecting them to the very end.
