When the guerrilla is not in motion for security reasons, educational work usually takes place and books are read. Sometimes the time is also used to make jewelry. For this, besides colorful ribbons and jewelry beads, the fruits of the terebinth are used. This tree is called Kezwan in Kurdish.
Two female guerrilla fighters are busy making bracelets. It looks interesting and I go to ask them about it. Heval Berfîn tells me:
"The Guerilla deals with many things and is inspired by the beauty of the mountains. We make jewelry by hand and give it to others as a souvenir. For this, we collect kezwan and roast the seeds until they are brown. Then we pierce them one by one with a needle and string them with jewelry beads on a thread. This way we can make beautiful tasbih. For bracelets, we knot threads in different colors and patterns."
Kezwan can also be used to make soap and coffee.
