Workers protesting for salaries attacked and detained in Bashur

Workers in Southern Kurdistan took to the streets for their right to salary. Security forces attacked the demonstrators and detained many of them.

In Bashure (Southern) Kurdistan, large numbers of teachers, health workers and public servants took to the streets in Sulaymaniyah, Hewler, Duhok and other central locations in protest at the non-payment of their salaries by the government.

Asayish (security) forces did not allow the demonstration planned by teachers and health workers in Hewler (Erbil) this morning. Those insisting on their action were taken into custody and the number of detainees couldn’t be clarified.

DETENTIONS IN CHOMAN AND DOHUK

In Choman district of Hewler, asayish forces similarly blockaded the roads and areas where demonstrators would rally. Still, many gathered for protests and faced attacks by asayish forces, while some were detained, including members of New Generation Movement, Gorran and Komela Islam.

At least 10 were taken into custody in Dohuk.
