Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement calls on Iraqi government to take steps against Turkey

The Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) condemned the Turkish state massacre in Zakho and called on the Iraqi government to go beyond just making a statement and take steps.

The Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) made a statement regarding the massacre carried out by the Turkish state in the touristic village of Perex in Zakho, South Kurdistan on 20 July. Nine people, including a baby, died and dozens were injured.

TAJÊ said: “We condemn this attack carried out by the Turkish state, which is far from human morality. As it is known, this attack is not the first attack carried out by the invading Turkish state on Iraqi soil. These massacres against the Iraqi people have been going on for years and are increasing. And one of the reasons for the increase in these attacks is the silence of the Iraqi and South Kurdistan governments and their lack of firm stance."

The statement added: "The KDP in particular is trying to legitimize the attack on the civilian population and Iraqi lands with its treacherous attitude. Thus, it proves its cooperation with the Turkish state. Iraq has not taken the necessary steps in the face of the attacks so far. Their reactions are limited to statements. The removal of Turkish soldiers from Iraqi territory can only be achieved through popular uprising. Actions against the attacks must be expanded and the Iraqi people must become one voice."
