YPS General Coordination announced that at least 20 police officers were killed in the action in Van last night. YPS also announced that 5 police officers were killed in Kızıltepe on August 10.
YPS (Civil Defense Units) General Coordination released a statement regarding the actions carried out by their units in Van, Gever, Silopi, Kızıltepe and Dersim/Mazgirt.
20 POLICE OFFICERS KILLED, 20 OTHERS WOUNDED IN VAN
According to the statement, YPS units have carried out an action on the 2 Nisan Police Station in Van centrum at 23.10 on August 17. Noting that there are residences for the Security Director and police officers surrounding this station used as a base of operations, YPS said a number of police officers were killed and many others were wounded in this action, adding; “The police opened fire randomly and shot several civilians. They are trying to pin this on us, but our action targeted the police station that is the base of operations.”
YPS said local sources have relayed that 20 police officers were killed and 20 others were wounded in this action.
GEVER
On the night of August 15, at 21:00, YPS forces carried out a sabotage action on an armored Kobra type vehicle in Gever’s Güngör neighborhood, leaving the vehicle destroyed. While Efeler Battalion bombed the grounds with A-4s and mortars, the destroyed armored vehicle was taken to the airport. As Turkish forces moved their dead and wounded with ambulances, the exact number could not be determined.
SİLOPİ
A police convoy heading to Customs from Silopi on August 15 was stopped by YPS-JIN units’ sabotage action. One armored vehicle was destroyed and others were damaged, while the number of casualties could not be obtained.
KIZILTEPE
On August 10, at 18:30, YPS units carried out a sabotage action with a vehicle loaded with explosives against a police bus passing by the TOKİ buildings. 5 police officers died in this action and 15 police officers (5 in critical condition) and 10 officers were wounded.
MAZGİRT / DERSİM
On August 15, at 18:00, YPS units conducted an action with their personal weapons against the counter-guerrilla units who had attended the operations before from a 15-meter distance near Kızılcık Hill in Peri area. Clashes broke out as the counter-guerrilla units retaliated and 1 counter-guerrilla member was heavily wounded. One YPS member was martyred in the fighting.
