Zozan Çewlîg said that the Kurdish women face genocide.
Zozan Çewlîg, Commander of the Central Headquarters of the Free Women's Units (YJA Star), emphasized that the women’s freedom struggle is the guarantee of President Öcalan’s line achieving success, of building a democratic society, and of self-defense.
The 12th Congress of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was held between May 5 and 7 in the Medya Defense Zones. The final declaration and decisions of the congress were shared with the public on May 12.
Commander of the YJA Star, Zozan Çewlîg, one of the delegates at the 12th Congress of the PKK, shared the following remarks at the congress:
"As Kurdish women and as the women’s movement, we are very fortunate. President Öcalan has fought not only for the Kurdish question, but also against the problems that have existed for more than five thousand years. President Öcalan defines woman as follows: Woman created life, led society, discovered bread, but today, she has been left without bread. Today, through politics, war, and male domination, every domain of life has been severed from women. In the person of the Kurdish woman, President Öcalan has brought forth an existence, an identity, and a science.
As Kurdish people and as Kurdish women, we see President Öcalan’s ideology as our identity and our freedom. As the women’s movement, we are clear. As women’s defense forces, we are clear. Our liberation is only possible through the liberation of President Öcalan. Defending President Öcalan’s line is defending the line of women’s liberation. We all know that the women’s freedom struggle is the guarantee of President Öcalan’s line achieving success. It is the guarantee of a democratic society, the guarantee of protecting the Kurdish people and Kurdish society, and the guarantee of defending ourselves.
President Öcalan developed women’s consciousness, organization, and freedom. As a woman, if one builds the consciousness of womanhood in her own being, she will claim this struggle more than anyone else. As a representative of the women's defense force, I can say that the center of our struggle is President Öcalan. On this matter, we have no doubt, no hesitation. We draw our strength from President Öcalan. Women are currently facing a genocide. In the face of this, no one can stand in the way of the women’s freedom struggle. Because the consciousness of women's freedom has been firmly established, and women know very well that freedom cannot exist without defense."
