10th arrondissement mayor: Paris is the land of the Kurds

Commemorative events marking the second anniversary of the second Paris massacre continued with the participation of Kurdish supporters. The Mayor of Paris's 10th arrondissement and French politicians called for justice for the Paris Massacre.

The memorial for KCK Executive Council member Evîn Goyî, activist Abdurrahman Kızıl, and artist Mîr Perwer, who were killed in Paris in 2022, began at the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center and continued throughout the day with speeches and musical performances.

On Monday afternoon, the event resumed outside the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center, with the participation of Kurdish activists and more speeches. Despite the cold weather, a large crowd filled the street in front of the association's building, protesting the massacre carried out by the Turkish state and France's silence.

The crowd frequently chanted slogans such as "Şehid Namirin" ("Martyrs Are Immortal") and "Jin Jîyan Azadî" ("Women, Life, Freedom"). The event began with a minute’s silence, followed by a speech from CDK-F co-chair Xanê Akdoğan.

'We will struggle until the killers are brought to justice'

Xanê Akdoğan stated: "Women led the Rojava Revolution, and for that, the occupying Turkish state targeted them. We pledge to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs. To the French state, which claims this was a racist attack, we say: Evîn Goyî fought against ISIS. She protected all of Europe, but you could not protect her. Until the killers are brought to justice, our struggle will not stop. We condemn those responsible for this massacre and those who have remained silent."

CDK-F co-chair Şahin Polat told the participants that they had gathered to honor the victims, and added: "Evîn Goyî was a key figure in the liberation of Raqqa. To honor her legacy, we must secure Rojava's status, and we are ready to pay any price for it. For the people of the Middle East and to solve the region's problems, we demand the freedom of Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan)." Polat emphasized the need for clarity on the Paris massacres and vowed to continue fighting until justice is done and Öcalan is freed.

'France must shed light on the Paris massacre'

Speaking on behalf of TJK-E (Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe), Arşem Ahmed stressed the importance of uncovering the truth about the Paris massacres, and said: "Paris has a dark history filled with massacres. For history to be illuminated, these massacres must be clarified by the French state." Highlighting Öcalan's paradigm of women's liberation and its implementation in Rojava, Ahmed said: "The revolution built in Rojava has not been destroyed despite all the attacks."

'We must unite around Rojava'

Ahmed also pointed to the destabilizing role of international powers in the region, and said: "There is significant resistance across all four parts of Kurdistan. Despite challenges, our people continue to protect the Rojava Revolution, and we will never retreat. Under the leadership of Önder Apo, we have experienced the taste of an equal, free, and democratic life, and we will continue on this path. I call once again on the Kurdish people: Rojava is Kurdistan, Kobanê is Kurdistan. Let us unite once more around Rojava."

'Paris is Kurdish land'

Alexandra Cordebard, the Mayor of Paris's 10th arrondissement, expressed solidarity and said: "We are here again, standing with you." Conveying greetings from the previous mayor, Cordebard declared: "The 10th arrondissement is Kurdish land, and it will always remain so. Unfortunately, it has also been a place of massacres. It is a sanctuary for Kurds who fought against ISIS and later sought refuge here. Six Kurds were murdered here, ten years apart. Once again, we affirm our support for Kurdish rights and demand the intervention of the Paris Terror Prosecutor’s Office to solve the massacre and bring justice."

'Freedom of peoples is linked to the Kurdish struggle'

Cordebard emphasized the global significance of the Kurdish struggle, and said: "The freedom of peoples is linked to the Kurdish struggle. The Kurdish people need our support, solidarity, and recognition for what they have achieved. Once again, I say, this is Kurdish land. You will never be visitors here. The values represented by the Kurds are needed by the people of France and even all of Europe. I extend my solidarity and commitment to the struggle."

'The killers and their protectors must be exposed'

Zeynep Kara, speaking on behalf of the family of Martyr Evîn Goyî, said: "Two years have passed, yet the perpetrators have not been prosecuted. For us, Paris is a source of great pain. December reminds us of these massacres. Once again, we have gathered at the site where our comrades were killed. The French state protects the killers and their accomplices. We vow to continue this struggle until this massacre is clarified and those responsible are exposed."

'Millions walk in the path of the martyrs'

Zeynep Kara continued: "The Paris martyrs have left us, but millions continue their struggle and walk their path. That’s why we say, we are not alone; we are millions. Although we are in deep sorrow, we are equally determined and full of anger. Regardless of the cost, we will continue this struggle."

'We will stand in solidarity with the Kurdish people'

Niyaz Abdullah, a women’s activist from South Kurdistan, said that attacks on Kurds are happening across all four parts of Kurdistan. She called for the Paris massacres to be solved and urged the continuation of the struggle.

Raphaelle Primet, speaking on behalf of the Communist Party, underlined solidarity with the Kurdish people and stressed the urgency of identifying the perpetrators.

'Remove PKK from the terror list'

Speaking for the Greens Party, Aminata Niakate delivered a message of solidarity and demanded justice for the victims of the Paris massacre.

Genevieve Garrigos of the Socialist Party repeated the slogan "Jin Jîyan Azadî," and greeted the crowd saying "Êvarbaş" (Good evening in Kurdish). Garrigos said: "This massacre was not random; the perpetrators must be brought to justice." She added: "We are with you; we are stronger together. We call for the PKK to be removed from the terrorist list."

The event concluded with performances of poetry and songs by artists Meral Alkan, Nuarin, Farqin, and Ozan Maruf.
