12 people detained in Çaldıran, included HDP co-mayor
12 people have been taken into custody in Çaldıran, Van. Among the detained is co-mayor of the municipality, Leyla Atsak, who was not granted a statutory decree.
Turkish police raided many houses this morning in Çaldiran district of Van. At least 12 people were detained in the operation. Among them is Leyla Atsak, who was elected co-mayor for the HDP at the last local elections, on 31 March.
Other people who have been taken into custody have been named locally as: M. Sıddık Moraner, Halil and Kerem Koç, Süleyman Kaya, Hülya Kaya, Naci Utaş, Zeynal Keleş, Salih Candeğer, Naci Dorak, Şeref Temel, Nuri Kızılaslan.
