13 people from Rojava taken into custody in Amed

Turkish police have raided the assembly of Hasırlı neighbourhood and the laundry room of Sur Municipality in Sur district of Amed, detaining 14 people, 13 of them from Rojava.

On the other hand, in Derik district of Mardin, 2 people of 8 who were taken into custody have been formally arrested.

Yesterday, in the Sur district of Amed, a march was organised in order to support the resistance of Kobanê. After the march, clashes broke out and the Turkish police raided Hasırlı neighbourhood assembly and the laundry room belonging to the municipality. The raids were carried out at around 11:00 and the doors of the institutions were broken.

The police gave no reason for the raids and arrested 13 wounded people from Rojava and a woman accompanying the wounded people. The raids continued until the early hours of the morning. The 13 people from Rojava and a woman who were taken into custody were sent to the Amed training and research hospital. The 14 people are being held by the police at the entrance of the hospital.

2 people formally arrested in Derik

8 people were taken into custody for attending a rally in the Derik district of Mardin. After being taken to the police department, the detainees were sent to the Derik prosecutor’s office. Following an investigation by the prosecution, the detainees were sent to the court. Two people, Uğur Özbahçeci (21) and Ömer Başakçı (21), were formally arrested, charged with being members of an organisation and were sent to prison. The other 6 people were released.

With the latest arrests, the number of people who have been formally arrested for attending rallies organised to support Kobanê in Derik has risen to 10.
