16-year-old youth by the name of Mahmut Çakır, who had been shot by police during a demo in the southern province of Adana on 31 January, has died.
Police had staged a crackdown on people joining a demo in Adana's Barbaros neighborhood 4 days ago in protest at the ongoing siege and genocidal attacks in the Kurdish region.
Çakır got shot by a bullet in the head, which left him heavily wounded. The boy had been receiving treatment at private Adana TOKİ Numune Training and Research Hospital since and his brain death occurred on 1 February due to the impossibility of an intervention to the bullet that remained in his skull.
The next day, Çakır was referred to the intensive care unit of Neurosurgery Service in Çukurova University Balcalı Hospital where the bullet was removed but didn't help him get any better.
Çakır has lost his life at hospital earlier today. His body has been handed over to his family following an autopsy which revealed the cause of his death as cerebral hemorrhage and brain tissue damage caused by gunfire.
