16th day of resistance for municipalities in Van

HDP MP Murat Sarısaç described the seizure of municipalities as a “trustee coup”.

Protests have been staged for the 16th day in Amed, Mardin and Van since the AKP regime seized the municipalities of the three cities by removing the democratically elected mayors and appointing trustees in their place on August 19.

Today’s sit-in action in Van was held in front of the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) İpekyolu district offices with the participation of HDP deputies Murat Sarısaç, Muazzez Orhan, Şevin Coşkun, Habip Eksik, Züleyha Gülüm, co-mayors and people.

Speaking to the press, HDP MP Murat Sarısaç described the seizure of municipalities as a “trustee coup”. He noted that the people have been resisting and protesting the trustees since August 19.

Sarısaç continued; “The appointment of trustees has found no legitimacy in not only Kurdistan and Turkey but also in international arena and in the circles who voted for AKP and MHP. The trustee policy is a practice of the monist mindset. This repressive mindset could well be expected to spread this policy to entire Turkey.”

The HDP MP continued; “Perpetrating violence in Kurdistan, the government tries to put the entire country under repression. The peoples of Turkey and Kurdistan are familiar with such practices which were repeatedly implemented before but failed to achieve any result. There are many examples of this all around the world. It is known to everyone how the dictators ended up and how they are remembered in history. It is also known how resisting peoples achieved victories. History proved us that those who ignored the people ended up in the dustbin of history. We will continue to resist with all our might and with all our will. Their security policies and security forces will never be able to make us deviate from the path of truth because we, the Kurds and the democratic circles in Turkey, know very well that we are right. They, too, know that we are right. We will remain on the streets until this rightfulness achieves its goal. We will be doing whatever necessary until we send back the trustees.”

The sit-in action ended with slogans.
