170 parliamentarians submit petition demanding parliament to elect new president on Wednesday

Muhsin Mendelawi, First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, said that 170 parliamentarians submitted a petition demanding that the parliament elect the president tomorrow, Wednesday.

Muhsin Mendelawi, First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, said in a statement to the Iraqi media that 170 parliamentarians submitted a petition demanding that the parliament hold a special session on tomorrow, 12 October to elect the Iraqi president.

Muhsin Mendelawi, when asked whether the parliament could convene on Wednesday, said that the parliament would respond to the MPs after discussing this request.

Although a year has passed since the Iraqi early elections, political parties could not reach an agreement on the formation of the government.
