Numerous flats were stormed in Istanbul and Izmir in the early morning. 19 people were taken into custody and three more people are being sought. Members of the Youth Council of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and journalist Sema Korkmaz from the magazine Demokratik Modernite are among the detainees.
Those detained in Istanbul were taken to the police station in Vatan Street. They are accused of membership in a terrorist organisation, meaning the PKK. The proceedings are classified as secret and the detainees are denied legal representation.
Of those taken into custody, Sedat Uğraş, Muhammed Uğraş, Barış Ugun, Rojin Değirmenci, Osman Koçar, Serhat Yavaş and Sema Korkmaz are known by name so far.
