It was a secret vote, but some AKP MPs were seen voting without entering the booths, showing their ballot to the other members. The Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Ahmet Aydın issued repeated warnings on these MPs.

The initial vote on the coup-like Constitutional amendment proposal was held in the evening hours following heated discussions in the stand. 536 MPs attended on this initial vote, and the results were:

Against: 155

Abstained: 6

Blank: 25

The results of the vote on the first article which was attended by 531 MPs were:

In favor: 350

Against: 148

Abstained: 5

Blank: 27

Invalid: 1

The results of the vote on the second article which was attended by 529 MPs were:

In favor: 357

Against: 149

Abstained: 6

The first round of voting is now complete and the parliament will reconvene on Friday, May 20. According to the Parliament’s rules, a vote is held whether to take a proposal on the agenda before the specific articles of the proposals can be voted on.
