2 killed, 11 wounded in Kurtalan – FLASH

Two people were killed and eleven others wounded after fire was opened on the mass protesting the ongoing attacks by ISIS gangs in Kurtalan district of Siirt.

Clashes between demonstrators and police erupted after police started to attack thousands of people as they gathered on Diyarbakır Avenue for a mass demo in solidarity with Kobanê at noon today.

As clashes continued, the mayor of Kurtalan, Nevzat Karatay, his family members and village guards reportedly opened fire on demonstrators, leaving two children wounded. Village guards and family members of the AKP mayor once again opened fire on demonstrators as they were about to disperse at the evening hours.

A total of 13 people, including two children and three women, who were wounded in the armed attack were taken under treatment at Siirt and Kurtalan state hospitals.

Among those wounded, Y.Ç. (17) and Mehdi Erdoğan (35) lost their lives at Siirt state hospital where they had been referred for treatment. One other wounded, Necmettin Çelik, reportedly remains in critical condition.
