38 people detained in Van referred to court

38 of the dozens of people who were detained during the protests for usurped HDP municipalities, have been referred to court.

Over 80 people were taken into custody in Van city during demonstrations in protest at the usurpation on August 19 of the HDP-run metropolitan municipalities and appointment of trustees in the place of the dismissed mayors in the mainly Kurdish cities of Van, Amed (Diyarbakır) and Mardin.

38 of the detainees have been referred to court on Monday.

On Sunday, the seventh day of the continued protests, six people were taken into custody during protests but were released thanks to the resistance and objection of HDP deputies. The six demonstrators were reportedly released on condition of judicial control and with a ban to leave the country.
