5 Kurdish politicians arrested in Başkale

5 DBP and HDP executives were arrested for allegedly “obstructing political party activities”, “driving people to hatred and grudge”.

DBP Başkale district co-chair Senar Yeşilırmak, DTK delegate Derviş Polat, Başkale Municipal Council member Selahattin Bozkurt and HDP executives Mehmet Salih Tayfun and Tanju Sancar were taken into custody amidst a conflict during AKP members' visit to the district.

Tension rose in Başkale district of Van during a visit by AKP Van provincial co-chair Zahir Soğanda, AKP Van MP Candidate Faruk Alpaslan and AKP members whom local people refused to receive at a condolence ceremony and their workplaces in an election campaign.

Demanding their arrest, the prosecutor referred the five Kurdish politicians to a court for allegedly “obstructing political party activities”, “driving people to hatred and grudge”.

Arrested in consideration of their risk to “obfuscate the evidences” and “escape”, the five politicians were formally arrested and sent to Van F Type Closed Prison.
