500 Yezidis to be housed in Ergani

Around 500 Yezidis who have reached North Kurdistan and found shelter in the main Kurdish city Amed after fleeing from Sinjar and Shexan will be accommodated in houses rented by the Municipality of Ergani, a district of Amed.

Co-mayor of Ergani Municipality Ramazan Kartalmış remarked that preparations for the accommodation of the Yezidi people are continuing ahead of the approaching winter season, and called on all the NGOs, public enterprises and the people in Ergani to mobilise in order to meet the needs of the Yezidi refugees to be housed in the district.

Kartalmış underlined that; "We believe that this is a matter of humanity and protecting human values, not a situation faced by an ethnic community alone. These people left all they had behind and fled from their lands. Their primary need today is safety and basic materials to lead their life."

The co-mayor informed that blanket, pillow, bed and food were among the main needs of the refugees, and called on the people to gather urgent aid to welcome the Yezidi people.
