6 people have been taken into custody by the security forces for distributing HDP leaflets in the Erciş district of Van. The 6 are said to have been detained after a complaint, and were interrogated at the police station for 6 hours.

One of the detained, Harun Bilici, said after they had been released that the police said to them that the reason for their being detained was a complaint they received, and added that the real reason is however to sabotage election campaigning. Bilici said the police preferred to remain silent against the attacks on the HDP offices and members, while the HDP is being targeted in Erciş despite the HDP members not being involved in any incidents.

Bilici said the detentions were carried out to put psychological pressure on HDP members ahead of elections, adding that while the Turkish president's rallies are declared legal by the Supreme Election Council and everything is free for the AKP, things are banned for HDP members.
