The 6th group has taken over the hunger strike launched on April 10 in Van to support the hunger strikes by thousands of prisoners against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Seyfettin Ertas spoke in the press conference held for the handing over of the hunger strike and said:
“As of today, Leyla Guven has been on a hunger s i me for 170 days, and prisoners for 132 days. Hunger strikes continue in the country and abroad. We know that the hunger strikers are now close to death. There are over 7.000 people on hunger strikes in prisons and outside, and we must lend our voice to this protest so nobody dies. We will continue to resist until the isolation ends. Isolation is a crime against humanity. Isolation is unlawful.”
Nuri Erol from the group taking over the hunger strike saluted Leyla Guven and all hunger strikers and said: “Our desire is to lend our voice to the thousands of hunger strikers and Leyla Guven herself.”
