Commemorations were held in several places in Istanbul on Thursday for workers killed on May 1st 1977.
Carnations were left for May 1st martyrs who were killed in 1977 in Taksim. May 1st Organization Committee President Adnan Serdaroðlu has emphasized in his speech the importance of May 1st as a day of struggle for the oppressed. Serdaroðlu has invited all to join the May 1st chorus in Taksim to defend peace against war.
The group has held a rally afterwards to Þiþhane where Mehmet Akif Dalcý was shot dead on May 1st 1989. Hasan Albayrak, Dursun Odabaþ and Yalçýn Levent who were killed on May 1st 1996 were also commemorated in Kadýköy.
As unions and workers are preparing the Workers'Day in Istanbul, to be held in Taksim, the institute of health and safety in the work place has released figures for April. In the first 26 days of the month 75 workers have died in their workplace and work related incidents.
