8 more prisoners went on an indefinite hunger strike in Şakran

It has been learned that 8 more prisoners joined the indefinite hunger strike resistance in Şakran Prison in the western province of İzmir.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir MP, Serpil Kemalbay and a group of lawyers went to Şakran Prison in Aliağa.

After meeting with the prisoners, the prison directors and the prosecutor, they were prevented from holding a press conference in front of the prison.

Journalists were also prevented from taking pictures, said Serpil Kemalbay, who made a statement on her official social media account.

Kemalbay said that they had met with the prison prosecutor and the prison director, and that the statement they wanted to make to share the details of this meeting was unlawfully prevented.

Kemalbay recalled that Leyla Güven was on the 103rd day of her hunger strike and that her hunger strike actions had spread to more than 60 prisons.

She said that the Interior Ministry and Government officials should take action as soon as possible in order to avoid bad news coming from the jails.

New indefinite hunger strike

On the other hand, it was learned that 8 prisoners went on an indefinite hunger strike. Uğur Özaykan, Hekim Demli, Sinan Koyuncu, Ferhat Öndeş and Behruz Sucayi, went on an indefinite hunger strike in Şakran No:2 T Type Closed Prison, while three women prisoners, Remziye Polat, Azime Işık and Şehrivan Çoban turned their hunger strike into indefinite on February 15 in Şakran Women's Closed Prison.
