878 people died in Turkey in 2012, in their workplace. The Bir Umut Derneği (One Hope Association) released the results of its report on Tuesday.
According to the report, only 42 days in 2012 registered no deaths from accidents in the workplace.
In July 110 people lost their life. İstanbul was the city where most accidents occurred, said the report, recording 102 accidents. İzmir and Ankara followed with 39 and 34, respectively. The sector most affected was construction, with 279 deaths, followed by agriculture with 90 deaths.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) reported last week that Turkey had the third highest rate of deaths from workplace accidents in the world, and the first highest among European countries.
