Italian lawyer Arturo Salerni expressed support to the campaign "Freedom for Öcalan! End fascism and occupation", part of the KCK campaign "End Isolation, Fascism and Occupation - Time for Freedom", which was proclaimed on September 12 in a video message.
Salerni said: "Today it is important to launch once again the campaign for the liberation of Öcalan, because Öcalan is the recognised leader of a people whose rights are constantly violated and has represented a very important novelty in the political scene of the Middle East with his proposal being put in practice in Rojava.
The conditions of total isolation imposed on Öcalan are unacceptable, as it has been underlined by various European institutions, including the Council of Europe. We are seeing an abuse by Turkey, a constant violation of the prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment. The constant prohibition imposed to Öcalan’s lawyers to visit their client is yet another violation of the state of law.
This situation must end. It is important that everyone mobilise. What is happening to Öcalan does not only pertain to Turkey and Kurdistan but it pertains to the entire Europe. Not just the member states of the Council of Europe because it affects the very idea of the possibility of building a state of law and protect the rights of the Kurdish people and give peace and stability a chance in that region."
