Abertzale Left condemn repression of Kurdish activists

The Abertzale Left would like to denounce the harassment of Kurdish activists by the
French and Spanish authorities. We call both states to stop any collaboration with
Turkish government´s war strategy and to put an end to all detentions and
imprisonments.

While the investigation on the killing of three Kurdish relevant activists last January in
Paris has no yet any clarification, the French government continues with a strategy of
criminalisation of the Kurdish Diaspora. 16 Kurdish people have been arrested following
the political pressure of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan last weeks.

The Abertzale Left considers that all arrested people should be released and French
authorities have to end the common work with Turkey as long as human right standards
and real commitments for a peaceful resolution of the Kurdish conflict are fulfilled. In
that sense, Hollande´s government urgently has to clarify who is behind the 3
assassinations in Paris and the alleged responsibility of Turkish officials

The Spanish authorities have arrested 6 Kurdish people and imprisoned 3 of them. This
kind of security measures difficult a dialogue and negotiation process for a resolution of
the Kurdish conflict. We demand as well from the Spanish government the immediate
release of the arrested activists, denial of any extradition to Turkey and an active role for
a democratic resolution process in Kurdistan.

The opportunity for a definitive resolution of the Kurdish conflict is open and the offer
by Kurdish representatives for dialogue and substantive negotiations is clear. The EU,
Spanish and French governments have the responsibility to promote a peaceful scenario
in Kurdistan, stopping police operations against the Kurdish movement.

The Abertzale Left demands, once again, to the Turkish authorities the respect of the
fundamental and national rights of the Kurdish people, a real commitment for a
negotiation process and the release of Mr Ochalan.
