Abuses in Antalya prison reach parliament
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Ağrı deputy Halil Aksoy asked the Turkish Minister of Justice, Muammer Güler, for a Parliamentary Inquiry in order to investigate the allegations on sexual harassment and abuse against children in Antalya L Type Closed Prison and to determine the measures to be taken concerning the allegations.
The alleged sexual harassment and abuse against children in the prison came to the agenda after an inmate, recently released, spoke to DİHA (Dicle News Agency) about what he witnessed in the prison.
Aksoy said that a delegation who has recently made an examination and investigation in the mentioned prison observed a great physchological trauma in the child victims of the abuse in question.
Aksoy pointed out that the prison administration must be relieved of duty and subjected to investigation for turning a blind eye to the incidents. BDP deputy said the administration must give an end to the administrative repression against prisoners.
BDP deputy asked the Minister how many inmates have been victim of sexual abuse and rape in the prison and proposed the establishment of a parliamentary commission to investigate the allegations on sexual abuse against child inmates.
