Access to Medresat hill at Kobanê border banned

The collusion between ISIS gangs and the Turkish AKP government, which wants to set up a ‘security zone’ on the Kobanê-Suruç border, has borne fruit with Turkish troops banning access to Medresat hill today.

Despite all opposition to it, the AKP government is continuing its efforts to establish a ‘security zone’ on the border. After emptying certain border villages, it has now evacuated the Medresat hill from where the media has been covering the battle for Kobanê. Where yesterday news teams filmed today it has been claimed that “from internal ISIS correspondence it is understood that journalists will be targeted by mortars”. This has been interpreted as the government using ISIS as a pretext for action. In the same way, the ISIS gangs are being seen as part of the government’s plan to establish a ‘security zone’. Last night Turkish troops evacuated Medresat hill, claiming ‘ISIS will attack’.

Evacuated yesterday, today it is a prohibited area

Journalists trying to access Medresat hill this morning to watch clashes on Tel Shair hill on the other side of the border were prevented from doing so. Soldiers told reporters the reason for the ban was: “anti-aircraft shells are coming over”. I reply to a question as to whether the ban was temporary or permanent, soldiers said: “for now it is for today.” Soldiers have taken up position all around the hill, announcing by megaphone that access is prohibited. People continue a tense wait on the lower slopes of the hill.
